SMWA Connection
What is the SMWA Connection?
The WISE (Water Infrastructure and Supply Efficiency) Partnership is a regional, collaborative water supply project between Aurora Water, Denver Water, and the South Metro WISE Authority that allows the three entities to share existing water supplies, infrastructure, and other assets in a mutually beneficial way. A vital component of the WISE infrastructure is the SMWA Connection. To view a recording of the public meeting held May 21st, see the video content below.
The goal of the SMWA Connection is to connect Aurora’s Binney Water Treatment Plant near Aurora Reservoir to the South Metro WISE Authority tank near Smoky Hill and E-470.
Learn about the alternatives
Watch the public meeting video below (recorded May 21 at 5:30 p.m.) to learn about the various alternatives we evaluated for the pipeline installation, what criteria we used in the evaluation, why a pipeline in Alexander Drive is currently the alternative preferred by the South Metro WISE Authority, and what mitigation measures we have proposed to lessen the impacts to the community.
Again, the goal of the SMWA Connection is to connect the Aurora’s Binney Water Treatment Plant near Aurora Reservoir to the WISE tank near Smoky Hill and E-470. The main criteria considered in this evaluation included public impact, constructibility, land requirements, permitting matters, and operator safety for each of the alignments identified.
